A Typical Week as a Ski Nanny

Work, Play & Make Memories in the Mountains

Becoming a Ski Nanny is more than just a job. It’s a chance to spend a winter in the Alps, care for children in a fun holiday environment, and be part of a friendly resort team.

You’ll combine your passion for childcare with the excitement of living and working in a beautiful ski resort. Every day is different, from caring for little ones and organising fun activities to enjoying the incredible alpine lifestyle in your free time. It’s a rewarding adventure that offers valuable experience, personal growth, and memories you’ll treasure forever.

If you love working with children and are looking for an unforgettable adventure, this could be the perfect role for you.

Sunday - Your first day with the families

Sunday is where the magic begins. It’s the day you meet your families for the week, welcome the children into the chalet and start building those all-important relationships from the very first hello. Whether you’re chatting to nervous first-time ski parents or helping little ones settle into a brand new environment, your warmth and energy immediately become a huge part of their holiday experience.

You’ll spend time getting detailed handovers from parents, especially for babies and toddlers with routines to follow. If children are heading to ski school, you’ll quickly become an expert on their groups, instructors and schedules. Parents absolutely love the attention to detail and it’s these little things that help create trust and make families feel completely relaxed from day one.

Early Years Qualified Jobs

Qualified Nanny (Level 3 Childcare)

If you’re a Level 3 qualified childcarer, you’ll usually care for our youngest guests under four years old. Every week is different depending on the ages, personalities and routines of your little ones, which keeps the role exciting, rewarding and full of variety. It’s likely you’ll also get stuck in with the older kids too, with a few mornings being spent over at ski school!

Most mornings begin in the playroom with sensory activities, stories and games while parents head off skiing for the day. Once everyone is settled, you’ll often head outside to explore the resort, introducing children to snowy adventures, fresh mountain air and magical winter experiences. One morning might involve singing songs in the snow with musical instruments, while another could mean spotting piste bashers or building tiny snowmen together.

Back at the chalet for lunch, the atmosphere becomes busy and fun as the older children return from ski school full of stories from the slopes. If your little one needs a nap, you’ll settle them down in their cots in their suites before preparing for the afternoon adventures with Monty’s Afternoon Club. From sledging and swimming to soft play and ice skating, no two afternoons are ever the same and your nanny bag quickly becomes packed with snacks, spare gloves and layers for every possible adventure.

By 5pm, parents return excited to hear all about their child’s day. From funny moments and favourite games to naps, meals and snowy adventures, you become a huge part of the memories families take home with them. While you may have key children you primarily care for, being a ski nanny is always a team effort and the support between nannies is one of the things people love most about the role.

Childcarer Role

If you’re an experienced childcarer without an early years qualification, you’ll most likely spend your week with our ski school children. Your mornings begin with the famous “ski school run”, helping children get dressed, organised and excited for a day on the slopes before dropping them off with their instructors. Once the children are skiing, you’ll head back to the chalet to help prepare lunch. Don’t worry, there’s no expectation to be a professional chef… think more chopping and prepping and pre heating the oven in readiness for the fish fingers!

Collecting the children from ski school is one of the best parts of the day because everyone arrives bursting with excitement and stories. You’ll quickly learn which children flew down their first blue run, who fell over dramatically getting off the button lift and who now believes they’re the next ski champion. These little details are gold dust for parents later on and helping children relive their ski school adventures is all part of the fun.

Afternoons are where the real adventures begin. Depending on the day, you could be leading treasure hunts through the resort, ice skating, sledging or simply enjoying hot chocolates beside the piste while the children laugh and play in the snow. Every afternoon feels different and the variety is one of the reasons so many nannies fall in love with the role.

End of the Day

At 5pm, the children sign out and the chalet settles down after another busy day. The nanny team works together to tidy and reset the playroom ready for the next morning before finally switching into evening mode.

Usually, you’ll be finished around 5:15pm, leaving the rest of the evening completely free. Some nights call for après-ski, team dinners and nights out, while others are perfect for cosy evenings, movie nights or simply relaxing after a full-on day in the mountains.

Your Free Time

One of the biggest perks of being a Ski Famille nanny is your free time. Saturdays are your full day off and honestly, it’s the best ski day of the week. The slopes are quieter, your whole team is free together and there’s an amazing atmosphere amongst the group. A nanny day off can look completely different every week. One Saturday might involve a huge team ski day followed by mountain lunches and après, while another could mean a lazy brunch, a spa visit or movie day in your comfies.

You’ll also usually get two half days off during the week. Some nannies use every spare second to ski, while others enjoy slower afternoons grabbing a crepe, calling home or relaxing with friends. The best part is that once your working day finishes, your evenings are completely yours to enjoy.

The Best Things About Being a Ski Famille Nanny

Being a Ski Famille nanny is one of those jobs that’s hard to explain until you’ve experienced it yourself. You become part of some of the most special family holidays people will ever have and get to experience the mountains through the eyes of children discovering snow for the very first time. No two days are ever the same. One morning you might be singing songs in the playroom, the next you’re racing children down sledging hills or helping them build snowmen outside the chalet. The role is packed with energy, laughter and genuinely unforgettable moments.

For many nannies, it’s also the friendships that make the experience so special. Living and working closely with your team creates an incredibly supportive environment and it’s very common for people to leave the season with friends for life. Alongside all the fun, you’ll also grow massively in confidence and independence. A ski season challenges you in the best possible way and gives you experiences you simply wouldn’t get anywhere else.

Who Makes a Great Ski Famille Nanny?

The best Ski Famille nannies are people who genuinely love working with children and throw themselves fully into the experience. Energy, positivity and warmth go a long way and the nannies who stand out are the ones who keep bringing fun and enthusiasm to every single day.

A ski season can be fast-paced and tiring at times, so resilience and teamwork are incredibly important too. Great nannies support one another, stay calm under pressure and help create chalets filled with laughter, music and happy children. Most importantly, they embrace mountain life completely and make the absolute most of every opportunity the season brings.

How to Support Your Application

The strongest applications come from people who clearly show both their childcare experience and their excitement for seasonal life in the mountains. Whether your experience comes from nannying, holiday clubs, coaching, teaching or nursery work, it’s important to show how confident and adaptable you are working with children. Ski Famille also looks for people with great teamwork skills, resilience and lots of personality. Seasonal life can be busy and unpredictable, so showing examples of when you’ve worked hard, adapted quickly or stayed positive under pressure will really help your application stand out.

If you hold childcare qualifications, first aid certificates or safeguarding training, make sure these are highlighted clearly too. Most importantly though, let your enthusiasm come across. We want to see people who are genuinely excited about spending a winter creating magical experiences for children in the mountains.
