World Snow Day organised by FIS (Federation Internationale De Ski) is celebrated globally on the 17th January every year as the second phase of the ‘Bring the Children to the Snow’ campaign. As well as organising World Snow Day, FIS runs an entire campaign around encouraging children and their families to get onto the slopes, that we simply love!

Sadly World Snow Day falls during term time this year, so we understand that it may be a little difficult to find your way onto the slopes to celebrate.

So instead, we’ve put together 4 ways in which you and your family can take part in World Snow Day as well as set the mood for your next family ski chalet holiday from the comfort of your own home!

DIY Snow Cones

Making your own snow cones is the perfect wintery activity the whole family will enjoy!

In order to get started, you’re going to need to need to make some snow. To do this you will need a blender and ice. A blender with an ‘ice-crushing’ setting is ideal but if your blender does not have this setting, adding a dash of water to the ice will help with the crushing process.

Once you’ve made your snow, you’re going to need to flavour it. There are two ways of doing this, using pre-made concentrated syrup or by making your own. Making your own is the healthier option but considerably more time consuming!

Now, for the cones to hold your snow –  you can buy some here or you can make your own. Making your own is great fun for the family as everyone in can individually decorate their own cup!

We’ve found some great snow cone recipes here.

UK Dry Ski Slopes

Spending the day on the slopes with your family is the most obvious way to celebrate World Snow Day, however with this year’s festivities falling during term-time finding your way onto the slopes may be a little tricky!

Dry ski slopes are a great alternative that will allow you to get your skiing fix until you can actually get onto the slopes during the holidays! You can find a local dry slope in the UK from an extensive list here.

Finding The Perfect New Ski Jacket

January sales are still very much alive and kicking, so you can still find quality ski apparel at up to 80% off.

Easily save £108 on this unisex children’s ski jacket , £117 off this super breathable jacket for Dad or £64 on this stylish jacket for Mum. Alternatively, you can find a great second hand ski jackets at local charity shops.

So, when you next find yourself on the slopes you’ll easily be the most stylish family around.

Indulge in (Pre) Après Ski

Wind down from your at-home World Ski Day with some French cheese platters, mulled wine and a roaring log fire to toast marshmallows on! These are just some of the ways that you can bring the spirit of the mountains to your own home.

As wonderful as World Snow Day is, here at Ski Famille we truly believe snow doesn’t deserve just a day, but an entire season!
