When you think of a skiing holiday you no doubt imagine yourself whizzing down the slopes with the wind in your hair, admiring all of the beautiful scenery as you effortlessly glide past! However, there are lots of other things to see and do as part of a ski holiday that are not actually anything to do with to skiing! In fact, when you think about it, you only spend around 5-6 hours a day on the slopes. The rest of the time spent on your family ski holidays with us will be enjoying all of the other things the mountains have to offer. When planning your holiday you might be focussed on making sure you have organised all the essentials like equipment, ski passes and other slope related bits and pieces – all necessary of course, but it is a good idea to plan and prepare what you might like to do when you are not skiing too. With this in mind we have come up with a list of some of the best ways to relax when not on the slopes.

Resorts & Spas

Many resorts, notably Les Gets have amazing spas. These offer plenty of soothing treatments to help you unwind, and can also help you keep your body in great condition, meaning when you hit the slopes again you’ll feel replenished and ready to go! Whilst the swimming pool is a great place to spend some time with younger children, many older children and adults can benefit from relaxing massages, saunas and other luxury treatments for a little bit of holiday pampering,  go on – you deserve it! Although don’t forget that as all our chalets have a hot tub, sauna or steam room (Chalet Nicole in Plagne 1800 has all three) you may not need to go far to get your pamper fix. Les Gets is known for its gorgeous spa, and is the perfect place to unwind after a long day of skiing.

Restaurants

A delicious meal at one of our resorts’ fantastic Alpine restaurants is a perfect way to relax after a day on the slopes. Whilst meals are provided in our chalets six nights a week, there is one night where you are free to explore the local cuisine. There is a great range of high-quality and child-friendly restaurants at every one of our resorts, so you’ll be spoilt for choice! The lively resort bars are also perfect for an aperitif or after dinner drink too.

Staying in Your Chalet

What’s more relaxing than putting your feet up in a cosy home from home environment?! Getting in some proper relaxation is very important after skiing (at least we think it is!). It helps your muscles recover from the physical exertion and you to recuperate in order to be ready for another day on the slopes the next morning. Our chalets provide all you need to relax and unwind in total comfort, and being fully catered, if you choose to stay in you will wined and dined without having to lift a finger. Almost all have a real log fire to nod off next to after your meal.

Going Out Without the Children

With in-chalet childcare why not have a night off, and let our nannies take care of the children in your chalet while you unwind in style with a night out in the resort? Parents can enjoy the many bars, nightclubs and romantic restaurants, safe in the knowledge their children are being well-looked after in their home away from home.

Hot Air Ballooning

If you’re looking for the kind of relaxation that only drifting through the clouds can deliver, then hot air ballooning is a good bet. It’s a fantastic way to get a view of your resort and take in the awesome stature of the surrounding alps. It’s resort dependent, but Les Gets has plenty of après ski activities including hot air ballooning, and other resorts like Les Menuires offer paragliding for a similarly calming and awe-inspiring experience.
