We love skiing in the spring. The slopes are quiet, the days are longer (meaning later lift closing times) and the weather is warm. The only challenge can be pulling yourself away from a sun kissed terrace to put in some more slope time.
- Longer Days and Better Weather
Even the mountains warm up in the spring, so forget about wrapping up in multiple layers and dusk at 4pm and look forward to long sunny days on the slopes. Trade in your thermals for a t- shirt and enjoy the additional skiing time – just don’t forget the sun lotion!
- Quiet Slopes
Avoid the crowds by travelling in the spring. The peak holiday dates have passed and you can enjoy shorter lift queues and clearer pistes. For the quietest slopes, head out in April. Don’t forget the lack of crowds extends to the restaurants and bars, meaning less of a wait time for that all important glass of wine.
- Activities in Resorts
Many resorts celebrate the return of the warmer weather by holding a variety of outdoor events and activities on the slopes. La Plagne hosts its annual Subli’Cimes festival throughout the first two weeks of April (5th – 18th), bringing the slopes alive with a diverse range of entertainment suitable for all age groups. Or if you are heading to Les Menuires, the Bon Appetit Derby on the 25th March sees live music and free entertainment provided across the resort.
- Great Value holidays
The peak weeks have been and gone, and spring sees some of the best value family skiing holidays of the year. Airline tickets are cheaper, and resorts tend to offer some great deals as the end of the season draws near. The longer days also makes self-driving to the Alps great cost effective travel option. Spring skiing also means sales in the shops, providing the perfect opportunity to try out those skis you’ve had your eye on, or buy some new salopettes to replace the ones you grew out of 2 years ago!
