Have you considered working in the Alps during the ski season but questioned whether you have the right skills or experience?
Ski Famille welcomes a wide variety of people to our overseas team; they come from all kinds of educational and work backgrounds. No matter what your age or work history and regardless of whether you have ever skied or not, we could have an opportunity that helps you to develop your skills (and have lots of fun) in the mountains.
We asked a few of the team that worked for us last season to share their experiences of working in the Alps. If you have got a positive attitude and are keen to do something a little different this could be you next year!

Laura’s story
Joined Ski Famille: Dec’ 2016
Job Role: Chalet Host at Chalet Grand Mouflon in Les Gets
Before joining Ski Famille I worked as a waitress at TGI Fridays in Reading. I was also a part-time freelance makeup artist. I have always been enthusiastic about fantastic customer service and loved working in catering and hospitality.
I consider myself to be hard-working and have a pro-active attitude; I’m always open to new challenges. I wanted to do something a bit different and had never skied before so I applied for a Chalet Host position with Ski Famille.
The highlight of my Ski Famille season was definitely learning how to ski. To go from never having seen a pair of skis to skiing every day was amazing. By March I was pushing myself to ski down black runs which was incredible. Getting to learn a completely new skill whilst improving my hospitality and customer service skills working in a chalet made for such a rewarding season.
I am currently back at TGI Friday’s, as a waitress, shift leader and recruitment co-ordinator. I am also learning to drive – eeek!! Working hard over the Winter has meant I have been able to get away on holiday a good few times this year – Carcassonne, Barcelona and the Maldives.
I’ll be back next winter as Chalet Manager in Chalet Nicole in La Plagne. I’m very excited about returning in a more senior role for another fun packed winter.
Abbie’s story
Joined Ski Famille: Dec’ 2016
Job Role: Chalet Chef in Chalet Aigrette, Les Bruyeres, 3 Valleys
Before I worked for Ski Famille I was an au pair in Madrid for 7 weeks and prior to that an au pair in London for 18 months. Before working as an au pair I was an Assistant Head Chef in a restaurant.
My Ski Famille season was amazing! The highlight of my season was my final ski day when I managed to ski half a black run and the rest off piste. We had the most amazing ski conditions that day, the whole team was out on the slopes.
Before the season started I had never skied before in my life so to finish of the season skiing a black run was superb. It was a memory I will never forget. This summer I am working for In2action in Ibiza as a Kids Club Rep at one of their holiday villages.
For Winter 2017/18 Ski Famille have given me the opportunity to come back as Head Chef in a larger chalet. I’m really looking forward to this exciting move; it’s the perfect opportunity for me. I’m also hoping to improve my snowboarding and learn more French.
Emily’s story

Job Role: Childcarer in Les Gets
When I left school I worked as an estate agent, which was followed by some sports coaching and getting a job as a chef. I then worked in Mallorca at a Kids Club. I loved the work and experience so I decided to do a winter season working with children.
The highlight for me whilst working for Ski Famille was learning to ski. I went from never having put on a ski boot, to managing to ski and then making it down the most difficult runs. Our Resort Manager arranged a Valley Rally which was epic; it involved all the staff on a mini treasure hunt on skis.
Being on the childcare team allowed us to have our evenings free, which meant unplanned nights out with other colleagues, late night walks and movie nights. It was a really sociable experience.
This summer I started off working for Eurocamp on a campsite but am now managing a teens sports programme in South Wales. At the end of the summer holidays, I am travelling to South America and then to Thailand. When the winter arrives I’ll be back to the mountains with Ski Famille to keep on developing my work and ski skills!
